EXCLUSIVE: Consular Affairs, Secretary to Visit Jamaica

The Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs, Rena Bitter will travel on January 16-18, 2024 to Kingston, Jamaica.
From the office of the spokesperson, Rena Bitter will be joined by the Special Advisor on International Disability Rights (SAIDR), Sara Minkara.

The duo, with a view to supporting Jamaica’s efforts in implementing the 2022 Disability Act, will meet with host government officials to discuss consular priorities of mutual interest.
The 2022 Disability Act outlines provisions for greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in Jamaican society in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights for Persons with Disabilities.
In Kingston, Assistant Secretary Bitter will also meet with United States Embassy consular staff and observe consular operations.
Being committed to the protection of U.S. citizens, it was stated that, “the trip underscores our deep and sustained commitment to the protection of U.S. citizens overseas, the promotion of disability-inclusive travel for U.S. citizen travellers, and the facilitation of legitimate travel and immigration to the United States.”
Correspondingly, Assistant Secretary Bitter will also visit Atlanta, Georgia, on January 18, where she will review U.S. passport facility operations and meet with staff.
