Recovers N70 Billion in 100 Days – EFCC

In just 100 days, from October 2023 to January 19, 2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovers a total of N70,556,658,370.5.

On Wednesday, 31st January 2024, a report has it that details of the recovery were received as described in an EFCC document with the Caption “Operations and Recoveries.”

The report showed that the EFCC recovered N60,969,047,634.25, $10,522,778.57, £150,002.10, and €4,119.90 between October 2023 and January 19, 2024. The anti-graft commission recovered a total of N70,556,658,370.5 during that time.

The EFCC received 3,325 petitions in total during that period; 2,657 of the petitions were accepted, and 747 people were found guilty of financial criminal offenses ranging from online fraud to money laundering.

The EFCC headquarters alone retrieved N49,607,391,330.44, $3,900,200.75, £2000, and £110, according to a breakdown of the data.

Maiduguri Zonal Command retrieved $3,370 and Gombe Command retrieved N58,065,870, and N127,323,028, while Kano Command retrieved N141,944,451 and $365.

Makurdi Command recovered N53,228, 325, $1,950, and N202,117,000 were retrieved by Enugu Command. Port Harcourt Zonal Command recovered $5,714,389.21 and N2,412,247,210.05, while Uyo Command recovered N25,299,950 and $710.

The total amount collected by Kaduna Command was N331,494,710.81, $912, £50, and €1,610, while Sokoto Command retrieved N100,696,118.72.

According to the document, the Abuja Zonal Command recovered N825,928,463 and $10,000, while the Ilorin Command recovered N80,280,580.86 and $880.

Lagos Zonal Command recovered N6,826,993,798.78, $868,284.61, £147,672.10, and €1899.90, while N135,519,810, $14517, £280, and €500 were recovered by the Ibadan Zonal Command. Through its Benin Zonal Command, the EFCC also retrieved $5,700 and N49,515,987.09.

In the meantime, the EFCC succeeded in getting 747 people found guilty of offenses ranging from cybercrimes to money laundering during that time.

On the other hand, the majority of the 747 convictions obtained by the commission concerned individuals who were charged with cybercrime offenses, according to information disclosed by EFCC Chairman Ola Okukoyede, at a dialogue in Abuja.

At the Federal Capital Territory’s Musa Yar’Adua Center, Olukoyede made this declaration during an EFCC event with the theme “Dialogue on Youth, Religion, and the Fight against Corruption.”

In addition, the head of the EFCC announced the commencement of the Fraud Risk Assessment Project for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
