Nominees for Grammy Awards: Sanwo-Olu hails Davido, others

Despite their separate losses, Davido and Burna Boy, among the other Nigerian Grammy Award nominees, received congratulations from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
In a post on his official X Twitter on Monday, 5 February 2024, the Governor expressed his joy over them.
The statement was written by Sanwo-Olu: “A special shoutout to #burnaboy, #davido, #ayrastarr, #@asakemusik, and all Nigerian artists represented as nominees at the Grammy’s, the world’s foremost music award.
“On those exclusive platforms, your mastery reached unmatched heights, showcasing world-class talent of which we are extremely proud.”
“To those who may be discouraged by the outcome, keep in mind that, in the eyes of your supporters and Nigerians, you are the undisputed champions. You will soon light up the stages you so much desire as victorious winners. Your representation of Afrobeat and Nigeria is unmatched in every international arena and stadium you fill up.”
“As you keep using music to tell the world our stories, cheers to more timeless moments.”
According to reports, South African singer Tyla won the 2024 Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles during the Grammy Award Premiere Ceremony.
Davido, who received three nominations in his debut, joined Burna Boy, who received four nominations. Olamide, Arya Starr, and Asake each received one nomination.
Alongside Tyla of South Africa, they were all nominated in the first Best African Music Performance category.
None of the Nigerian quintets, nevertheless, was successful in receiving nominations on Sunday, 4 February 2024.
