Asia’s Wealthiest Families in 2024
By Reporter 2
The Ambanis are still the wealthiest family in Asia, according to a rating that Bloomberg recently released, despite recovering from earlier setbacks. The Mumbai-based firm Reliance Industries is responsible for the family’s wealth. A variety of nations, industries, and one well-known worldwide brand make up the remaining top 10.
In the list of the wealthiest families in Asia, the Ambanis are still more than twice as wealthy as the next clan, the Djarum-branding Hartonos of Indonesia. Among the wealthiest legacy families worldwide, it also places them at number eight. Ultimately, the 2024 ranking shows four Indian families among the top 10, compared to just two the previous year.
The Jindal family, who acquired their wealth in several industrial areas, and the Birla family, who manage the conglomerate Aditya Birla Group, are the new additions. The top 10 also includes two families, one from Thailand and the other from Hong Kong. The Yoovidhyas, Thai Red Bull innovators, are ranked 6th.
Among the wealthiest households in Asia, Chinese immigrants are frequently found. Chia Ek Chor, the patriarch of Chearavanont, began importing and exporting seeds, vegetables, and animal products between Bangkok, China, and Hong Kong after arriving in Thailand from Southern China in 1921.
The Pao/Woo family (ranked 11) and the Lee family (ranked 17), who invented oyster sauce, acquired their wealth in Hong Kong after immigrating from Mainland China. These families are not among the top 10.
The Sy family, who run conglomerates in the Philippines, rank 14, has a comparable story.
