Osun State Assembly Extends LG Caretaker Committees Term

By Reporter 2

The Osun State House of Assembly reappointed Caretaker Committees for Thirty Local Government Areas, as well as for the Forty-nine other areas that oversee the State’s Modakeke Area Office and Local Council Development Areas. The Committees’ terms of office have been extended.

A further six months of tenure, starting in February and ending in August 2024, was subsequently obtained for the Caretaker Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Scribes, and their members.

The extension was given in response to a letter that Governor Ademola Adeleke wrote to the legislatures via Speaker Adewale Egbedun and had read aloud on the House floor on Friday, 16 February 2024, during the plenary session, according to a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to Speaker Olamide Tiamiyu.

“Morality Leader of the House, Hon. Babajide Kofoworola Adewunmi, representing Ede North State Constituency, moved a motion to that effect,” the statement continued. The Chief Whip, Hon. Adewale Akerele, of the Ilesa West State Constituency, seconded the resolution.

However, Honorable Babajide Adewunmi noted that the State Assembly has the authority to grant the extension following the Nigerian Constitution of 1999 as amended.

“The members adopted the motion and approved the request, extending the tenure of the Caretaker Committees to August 2024, after much deliberation and assessment of their performances.”

In addition to congratulating the new members, Egbedun warned them to keep spreading democracy’s benefits to the masses.
