The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), says it is examining the likelihood of transferring some of its units to Lagos, weeks after a similar move by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and Departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to the city.

NUPRC announced the planned relocation in a February 14 memo signed by the Executive Commissioner, Economic Regulation and Strategic Planning, Kelechi Ofoegbu.

According to the Commission, the move is to improve its service delivery, reduce operational costs, and adequately utilize its assets in Lagos.

In the memo, the Commission requested that supervisors submit units that could work independently with minimal supervision, before February 23, 2024.

“In line with our objectives of improving organizational efficiency, driving the industry’s growth, and managing office accommodation in Abuja, we are exploring the possibility of relocating certain units to Lagos.”

“This is driven by the need to enhance our service delivery, reduce operational costs, and adequately utilize our assets in Lagos.”

“Consequently, we are requesting that each Department identify and provide a list of units that can operate independently with minimal supervision.”

“Submissions on the above are expected on or before the close of business on Friday 23rd February 2024,” the memo stated.

Recall that Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Ali Ndume, moved against the relocation of some Departments of the CBN and FAAN Headquarters to Lagos.

Some northern groups alleged that the development was part of a plot against the North.

However, the Arewa Consultative Forum(ACF), and some other groups backed the Federal Government’s action.
