Plateau Govt Arrest, Cracks Down Owners of Illegal Structures
By Reporter 2
Done illegal structures in Jos, the State Capital of Plateau, have been demolished by the Plateau State Government.
According to reports, the owners of the constructions were constructing on land owned by the Government and other locations without the necessary regulatory authority’s approval.
On Monday, 11 March 2024, Task Force Officials led by Joshua Ubandoma, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development; Musa Ashoms, the Commissioner for Information; and Hart Bankat, the General Manager of the Jos Metropolitan Development Board, stormed a construction site at the old Legislative Quarters along Bauchi Ring Road in Jos, where they arrested 17 people.
The activity, according to Ubandoma, was a component of the Ministries and Agency’s regular monitoring program meant to bring order back to the State Capital and other areas included in the Jos master plan.
“We have given notices to all those in possession of Government properties that they should return them,” Ubandoma declared. Because we want to make sure that normalcy is restored in the State, we have also issued warnings to everyone who is building illegal structures to stop doing so.
“It is a common procedure that to begin construction, you must first receive approval from the Ministry of Lands and Survey and obtain the necessary titles. Sadly, some people are not doing this. There is no one above the law. Thus, the law will exact its full fury on all of these individuals who are determined to break it.”
“As a government, our job is to uphold law and order,” the Commissioner for Information continued. Though the laws of the land must be obeyed, we are not here to witch-hunt anybody because we do not even know who owns the property. In Plateau State, all property owners are required to follow the law.”
