The fifteen pupils who were kidnapped from the Qur’anic school in Gidan Bakuso village, Gada Local Government Area, Sokoto State, have been set free.
According to a source, two weeks ago, while the students fled an attack on the community by hiding in their dorms, they were abducted.
A few hours before the Community Guard Corps Graduation Ceremony, which was organized by the state to combat banditry, the victims were kidnapped.
Liman Abubakar, the owner of the Tsangaya school in Gidan Bakuso, said that the attackers broke into the neighborhood around 1 a.m., shot one person, and kidnapped a woman.
The owner disclosed that the criminals abducted the students after they were seen running into their apartments.
“We have counted 15 people missing so far, and we are still looking for more,” he stated.
Colonel Ahmed Usman, Rtd, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security and a member of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps, revealed the news of the kidnapping reached him during the graduation ceremony.
“We promptly notified the heads of security personnel after I informed my governor about it,” he stated.
According to Abubakar, there had been previous bandit attacks on the village.
According to a source, the abducted students are now free and have reconciled with their families.
“All the students are now free and back with their families.” The source stated, “I can’t tell you how much was paid (as ransom), but before they were released, the bandits were given something.”
