SDP Governorship Candidate Resigns Over Political Convictions
By Reporter 2
Osarenren Izedonmwen, a Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the forthcoming Governorship election in Edo State, resigned from the party for reasons he claimed were inconsistent with his political beliefs.
Izedonmwen stated in the letter made available to Vanguard on Monday, 25 March 2024, that “I have been deeply committed to the principles of inclusive democracy, transparency, and grassroots engagement, which initially drew me to the SDP throughout my time with the party.”
The SDP’s current direction and methods seem to be at odds with my core political views and vision of effective administration, even though I have enjoyed my time with the party and the opportunity it has given me to interact with my local community and state constituents. It is imperative that my political aspirations are congruent with platforms that exhibit inclusivity, transparency, unity, and a dedication to democratic values.
“I would like to clarify that, even with my leaving, I have no personal grudge or disdain for any party members. Rather, it is an attempt to bring my political activity closer to my objectives and ideals.”
“I hope to have the opportunity to work with the SDP in the future, particularly if the party’s policies more closely resemble the inclusive, transparent, grassroots politics I support. I think constructive alliances may go beyond personal ties in the quest to develop our state and country.”
“Accept this letter as official notice that I’m leaving the Social Democratic Party. I sincerely ask that my resignation be handled as soon as possible. I wish the party and its members well in their upcoming endeavors. I am excited about the possibility of working together on projects that advance real democratic values and the public interest.”
