In honor of Good Friday and Easter Monday in 2024, the Federal Government has designated Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, 2024, as public holidays.
In a statement released on Wednesday, 27 March 2024, by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Aishetu Ndayako, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement.
Tunji-Ojo called on Nigerians in general and Christians in particular to imitate Jesus Christ’s selflessness and love in dying on the cross to redeem mankind.
Part of the statement said, “Easter fosters principles of love, forgiveness, and compassion, which are crucial for social cohesion and harmony, beyond its religious importance.
“The Minister urged Christians to aspire to these qualities because they can have a good effect on Nigeria’s socio-economic growth by promoting harmony, decreasing hostilities, and promoting collaboration among Nigerians.”
He also asked Nigerians to perform deeds of kindness and generosity to improve the material circumstances of those who are less privileged among them.
Tunji-Ojo stated that this was in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The statement went on, “The Minister called on Nigerians to join hands with President Tinubu-led Administration in its determination to bring sustainable development and usher in prosperity for all, while wishing Christians at home and abroad a happy and blissful Easter celebration.”
