Police Arrest 5 Transformer Vandals and AEDC Staff

Six individuals have reportedly been taken into custody by Federal Capital Territory Police Command operations for the theft and vandalism of a transformer at Tipper Garage in the Mpape area of Abuja.

According to a statement released on Friday, 12th April 2024, by SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) employee Raymond Mailabari, is among the suspects. The other five suspects are Suleiman Ibrahim, Shafi’u Suleiman, Abdulmalik Alhasassan, Aliyu Usman, and Kabiru Muhammad.

Adeh claims the arrest was made on Thursday, 11th April 2024, after the agent acted on reliable information. She also said that the culprits were attempting to flee after loading a vandalized transformer onto a crane truck in Maitama when Police officers ambushed them.

The retrieved items included a vandalized transformer, a crane truck, a blue Mercedes Benz with registration number PKN 497 XA, a white J5 bus with registration number RBC 228 XC, an ash-coloured Peugeot 406 automobile with registration number GSN 13 AA, and a car belonging to AEDC employees.

The statement stated, “CP Benneth Igweh, Commissioner of Police FCT, wishes to reiterate his commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the territory while the investigation is ongoing.”
