Lagos State Opens Amnesty Window for Planning Permit
By Reporter 2
A window of amnesty has been opened by the Lagos State Government for homeowners to obtain planning permits for completed buildings. Engineer Oluwole Sotire, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, made this announcement on Monday, 15th April 2024.
The statement stated that within the specified timeframe of May 2nd to 30th July 2024, property owners and developers of completed developments lacking approvals can obtain their planning permits, also known as building plan approvals, without having to pay the statutory penalties that are typically associated with erecting buildings without approval in Lagos State. There will also be a three-month penalty suspension during this window.
To be eligible for the amnesty program, applicants must submit their as-built architectural drawings, survey plan, title document or proof of ownership, and structural, electrical, and mechanical drawings (where necessary) for assessment through the District Offices of the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) in the 57 Local Government Area and Local Council Development Areas of Lagos State, as well as the Electronic Planning Permit (EPP) Office at the LASPPPA Headquarters, Oba Akinjobi Way, G.R.A. Ikeja.
Addition documents that must be provided for evaluation include A non-destructive integrity test report (where necessary), a letter of structural stability and indemnity (where applicable), a land use planning analysis report, proof of tax compliance, and other supporting documents, as appropriate.
The amnesty program is one of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to lessen the impact of the current economic woes on the built environment industry, along with further relief in the form of a five percent discount on payments made within ten working days during the amnesty period.
