Enugu Police Apprehend Man with Fake Naira Notes

Mmaduabuchi Okonkwo, a 24-year-old suspect, has been taken into custody by Enugu State Police for allegedly possessing and dealing in counterfeit naira notes.

DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, revealed this in a message shared on the command’s official X handle on Tuesday, 16th April 2024.

The statement read as follows: “On April 10, 2024, at approximately 3 p.m., law-abiding citizens assisted Police Officers assigned to the Abakaliki Road Police Division of the Enugu State Command in the arrest of one Mmaduabuchi Okonkwo a 24-year-old resident of Mkpologu, Emene, Enugu, at the Old IMT Bus Stop, Abakaliki Road, Enugu.”

“The suspect was arrested for possessing and selling counterfeit Naira notes. We recovered from him a total of ₦40,000 suspected counterfeit one thousand Naira notes.”

It was reported that Okonkwo got into a minibus and gave one of the counterfeit money to the driver. The statement said that the suspect admitted to paying N25,000 for fake naira notes with a face value of N50,000 when being questioned.

During questioning, he admitted that he had given his accomplice large ₦25,000 real Naira notes in exchange for ₦50,000 worth of fake naira notes. He also said that he had used ₦10,000 counterfeit notes, leaving the ₦40,000 found on him. After the investigations are finished, the suspect will be charged and put on trial.
