Social Media User Detained for Abusive Language against Adamawa Government Officials

By Reporter 2

A social media user named Aliyu Musa was detained by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly using derogatory language against State Public office holders.”

A statement released on Monday, 13 May 2024, by the Command stated that it had discovered “an alarming video of a 33-year-old Aliyu Musa, A-K-A Imam Mahdi, a resident of Kwacham Ward, Mubi South Local Government Area, with a Tiktok handle @faty5076 circulating on social media”.

According to the report, the young man’s assertion on TikTok that certain stakeholders in Adamawa are unjust, amounts to unethical abuse of them. Suleiman Nguroje, the State Police Public Relations Officer, stated that despite the fact the man lacks proof to support his claims,, they will damage the reputations of the mentioned personality and could perhaps result in a breakdown of peace and order.

According to the statement, this is because public office holders in Adamawa and around the nation have delicate obligations.”The Command vehemently denounced this act in the strongest terms and promised to deal with social media user who is determined to break the law,”

The Police stated that initial inquiries thus far indicate that the offensive posts were created to damage the reputations of well-known individuals and State leaders. However, they would not release the names of the individuals named by TikTok. This aggressive approach will cause law and order to collapse.

Proactive steps to advise and direct social media users to exercise caution when posting is crucial to prevent breaking the laws that specify and control how people use social media.
