NCC Halts Issuance of New Licenses

By Reporter 2

According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the issuing of new licenses in certain categories has been temporarily halted. The interconnect exchange license, mobile virtual network operator licenses, and value-added service aggregator license were among the categories listed by the commission.

In a statement released in Abuja on Friday,17 May 2024 the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Reuben Muoka, stated that the agency had acted in accordance with its authority under the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003.

The purpose of this temporary suspension of new licences is to allow the commission to thoroughly examine a number of important aspects within these categories, such as the degree of competition at the moment, market saturation, and current market dynamics.

“The public is thus informed that no new licences applications will be accepted for the aforementioned licenses beginning on May 17th, throughout the suspension period. “Any petitions that are still pending before the commission will still be reviewed based solely on their merits.

“Submit any questions or requests for clarification regarding this suspension notice to licensing@ncc.gov.ng.” (NAN)
