Ibadan Court Remands Man for Killing 70-year-old

Mutiu Balogun, a 46-year-old man has been remanded in a Correctional facility by Iyaganku Magistrate Court in Ibadan, on Wednesday, 22 May 2024 for allegedly killing a 70-year-old man. He was charged with murder.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, did not accept the plea of the defendant for want of jurisdiction. She directed the Police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice and, thereafter, adjourned the case till June 25 for mention.
The Prosecutor, Insp Oladejo Balogun, informed the court that the defendant committed the offense on May 16 at about 1.30 pm in the Mokola area of Ibadan. He said that the defendant was unlawfully responsible for the death of the man, identified as Yekini, by punching him in the chest with his fist.
According to him, the offense contravened Section 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
