Atiku: “I Will Run for President in 2027”
By Reporter 2
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said that he will compete for President of Nigeria in the 2027 election, despite the issues that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is presently facing. Atiku has run for President of Nigeria six times in the last three decades, with his most recent attempt being in the 2023 Presidential election as the PDP candidate.
In his last effort, the 77-year-old received 6,984,520 votes, coming in second place to Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 8,794,726. When asked if he would attempt again, Atiku told Voice of America Hausa: “God willing”.
He also stated that he would continue to run for President as long as God gives me strength, health, and longevity. A former President of America, Abraham Lincoln, didn’t he run seven times? he remarked rhetorically.
The former Vice President also agreed that the PDP must work with other parties if it is to retake power from the governing APC. At the moment, the PDP is the sole political party standing for election. There is no way it can win the election. It requires collaboration with other parties,” he stated.
