Two Female University Students Kidnapped in Benue

By Reporter 2

On Wednesday, 29 May 2024, Benue State Police reported the kidnapping of two female students from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), formerly known as Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi. According to witnesses, the two female University students were kidnapped on Saturday night, 25 May 2024, along the road to the institution.

SP Catherine Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the incident to journalists in Makurdi without disclosing the female students’ identities. Anene did, however, confess that the incident occurred on Saturday night at about 11 p.m. near the North Bank/UniAgric road in Makurdi and did not take place on the University campus.

She claimed that the abductors blocked the road, apprehended the victims, and took them away before security personnel arrived. Anene went on to say that the victims’ relatives and school administrators had alerted the Police and that an inquiry into the incident had already begun.

When approached by journalists, Mrs Lucy Iwodi, the Institution’s Deputy Registrar for Information and Public Relations, told them that she had yet to get permission from the school’s leadership to comment on the issue at hand.
