Military vows to Retaliate the Killing of Soldiers by IPOB in Abia State

By Reporter 2

The Military High Command has threatened to apply overwhelming military pressure on the Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) following the killing of five soldiers at a checkpoint in Aba, Abia State, on Thursday, 30 May 2024. Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, stated in Abuja on Friday, 31 May 2024, that the military would respond fiercely to the heinous conduct, putting enormous military pressure on the gang to ensure their destruction.

He stated that the troops of Operation UDO KA stationed at the Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in the Obingwa Local Government Areas adjourning Aba, Abia, were attacked and tragically killed by IPOB/ESN terrorists. According to him, the terrorists targeted the forces stationed to maintain peace and defend the citizens.

He claimed that the terrorists, who arrived in three tinted Prado Toyota SUVs and others from the built-up regions surrounding the checkpoint, launched a surprise attack on them. “Sadly, five Armed Forces members were killed in the incident.” The Armed Forces mourn these troops, as every soldier killed in action is a tragic loss.

“In the meantime, investigations into the attack are ongoing. Overall, the people are the terrorists’ lifeline, and this case is no exception. Winning the battle without the people’s backing is nearly impossible, and the IPOB took advantage of this to carry out attacks on troops. The scenario leaves something to be desired.

“As a result, the Military must take immediate action to respond to this heinous conduct against troops and would be fierce in its response. We would apply overwhelming military pressure on the group to ensure their complete defeat,” he stated.
