Barcelona President, Joan Laporta, has revealed why he decided to fire Xavi Hernandez as Manager of the Club recently. As of the last week of April 2024, the La Liga giants were still trying to convince Xavi to remain with the Club.

Nevertheless, the former Spain midfielder made a few remarks about Barca’s weak financial status and its effects on their ability to contend with a robust Real Madrid Squad. It was reported that Laporta was not happy with the comments.

Hence the Club legend was asked to leave within a month and Flick was installed as his replacement.

Speaking on ‘The President’s Podcast’ on Barça One, Laporta stated: “Xavi told me that he trusted this team, but then some of his statements looked like he changed his speech. It caused me to rethink and I had the feeling that I had to do a change, also with the same feeling shared with the board.”
