President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that infrastructure development and urban revitalization are key components of his administration’s agenda for a more prosperous and connected Nigeria. The President stated this on Thursday, 6 June 2024, when he commissioned the seventh FCT project as part of his one-year anniversary celebrations, saying the commissioning of Roads B6, B12, and Circle Road in the FCT’s Central Area was a significant milestone in his administration’s commitment to achieving the vision.

The President, who was represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, claimed that the newly constructed roads would lead to increased economic activity, improved accessibility, and a higher quality of life for inhabitants. He stated, “When we took office a year ago, we set out an ambitious agenda to transform our country’s infrastructure landscape. We realized that effective transportation networks are critical to economic growth, social integration, and overall national development.

“Today, as we unveil these strategic roads, we are not just opening asphalt and concrete pathways but also paving the way for enhanced economic activities, improved accessibility, and a higher quality of life for our citizens.

The President stated that the completion of the roads demonstrated what can be accomplished through dedicated planning, unwavering commitment, and collaborative efforts. The roads were designed to relieve traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and provide a more seamless connection between key areas within the nation’s capital.

They represent a crucial step forward in our broader objective to create a robust and efficient transportation network across the Federal Capital Territory and beyond,” he said.

The President said, “I would like to salute the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Barr Nyesom Wike, his staff at the FCTA, and all of the stakeholders involved in these projects that we have commissioned over the last seven days. These accomplishments are the result of your hard work, devotion, and adherence to high standards of quality. “While we celebrate this accomplishment, let us also acknowledge that our work is far from finished. As a testament to our Renewed Hope Agenda, we are determined to continue the journey of constructing more roads, bridges, and key infrastructure to link our people and drive our economy.”

In his address, the FCT Minister thanked the President for accepting his invitation to commission projects completed by the FCT Administration within one year and tasked him with commissioning the last two projects in the first series. These projects are scheduled to take place on June 7th and 8th at the Vice President’s official residence and Guzape District Lot II, respectively.

Wike added that the contract for the commissioned road was awarded in 2007 for N48.5 billion and revised in 2021 to N98.8 billion, but it was never completed until today, which he attributed to President Tinubu’s leadership.

“Mr. President, it may interest you to learn that the contract for this road was given in 2007. Regarding renewed hope, a road awarded in 2007 has been completed in just one year under Mr. President’s administration. For those who know maths, 2007 is how many years? 17 good years. Today, Mr. President has completed it in just a year. This is known as leadership.

“Leadership is essential. With the appropriate leadership, you will achieve the desired result. We are receiving the results we want because we have the appropriate leadership.”
