Edo Guber: Court Nullifies PDP Primary Election

By Reporter 3

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has nullified the gubernatorial primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State. The election which produced Asue Ighodalo as its governorship candidate was conducted on February 22, 2024 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

The Judge invalidated the primary election on the ground that 378 delegates who were statutorily supposed to cast their vote at the primary were unlawfully prevented by PDP. Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo voided the election in the judgment he delivered in a suit brought by the aggrieved delegates.

The suit marked THC/ABJ/CS/165/2024 was initiated by one Hon Kelvin Mohammed who represented other aggrieved delegates.

Justice Ekwo held that both the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and the PDP Guidelines were grossly infringed in the conduct of the primary election at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin, Edo State.
