JAMB Discovers 3,000 Fraudulent Graduates
By Reporter 2
The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), has discovered 3,000 fake graduates who have never stepped foot inside a classroom. The Board also condemned the issue of unlawful admissions by some universities, which it claimed had continued to humiliate the country. Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar, stated this in a report published in the Board’s bulletin.
According to the bulletin, Oloyede revealed this during a meeting with the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of State Universities acknowledging the gravity of the situation. “Some ‘graduates’ had never crossed the four walls of a university due to widespread corruption in the system, however, the board had documented over 3,000 such instances. Illegal admission of candidates into tertiary institutions in the country is an embarrassment and a disservice to the nation,” the bulletin stated.
Over the years, JAMB has prioritized the issue of unauthorized admissions. In December 2023, the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education directed the JAMB to produce a list of tertiary schools that have admitted students illegally. The examination body had previously urged candidates not to accept admission offers from such colleges without full academic involvement.
In a statement titled “Cessation of illegal/irregular admission,” JAMB reiterated that all applications for admission to First Degree, National Diploma, National Innovation Diploma, and Nigeria Certificate in Education into full-time, distance learning, part-time, outreach, sandwich, and other programs must be processed exclusively through JAMB.
