“Let us Work Together to Establish a Better Future” Obi Urges Keir Starmer

By Reporter 2

Mr Peter Obi, a former Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, has stated that Nigeria could substantially benefit from the United Kingdom’s assistance in dealing with issues of insecurity, education, healthcare, and poverty.

Obi’s statement came after the Labour Party was named the official winner of the UK general election, having secured 326 parliamentary seats. The former Anambra State Governor proposed that both countries collaborate to create a better future for the Commonwealth.

In a post on his X handle on Friday, 5 July 2024, Obi stated that he expected stronger connections between the UK and Nigeria to help improve democracy in the country, particularly during these trying times. According to New York Times, the Labour Party defeated the Conservative Party, which had been in power for more than 14 years.

Obi, who congratulated Keir Starmer and the UK Labour Party on their overwhelming victory, stated that the victory should lead to a better and new chapter for all UK people. He tweeted: “I sincerely congratulate @Keir_Starmer and the Labour Party UK on their huge victory in Thursday’s election. May the triumph usher in a brighter and fresh era for all UK residents, as you keep your political promises.

“I also hope that your Government would strengthen relationships between the United Kingdom and Nigeria and contribute to the development of our democracy, particularly during these trying times. Nigeria is battling with issues such as insecurity, education, healthcare, and poverty and could significantly benefit from the UK’s support. Let us all work together to create a brighter future for the Commonwealth. I wish you a successful tenure.”
