Kano High Court Refrains Bayero and Four Others from Portraying as Emirs

By Reporter 2

Kano State High Court presided over by Justice Amina Aliyu has refrained Aminu Ado-Bayero and four other ex- Emirs of  from portraying themselves as Emirs.

Justice Aliyu, who delivered the ruling on Monday, 15 July 2024, also restrained the  four other dethroned Emirs, their servants, privies, and any other persons nominated by them from claiming to be Emirs of Kano.

Recall that the Kano State Government had filed a complaint in the State High Court, requesting that the 15th Emir, Bayero, and four others refrain from acting as such.

The Government also granted the deposed Emirs 48 hours to evacuate their various palaces after their deposition. However, Justice Aliyu stated in his opinion that the issue of evicting the deposed Emir, Bayero, from his Nasarawa small palace is a rent tribunal matter and is not before the court.

In her ruling, she ordered the deposed Emir and four other former Emirs to immediately hand over all Emirate Traditional Royal Artefacts to the Government and the substantive Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II. Justice Aliyu further stated that the State Assembly Emirate Council Repeal Law 2024 was enacted under Section 4 of the Constitution. Similarly, she decided that Abba Yusuf, the State Governor, assented to the law in accordance with the Constitution.
