Ogun Not Owing WAEC, Result Withheld Over Technical Issues – Branch Controller

By Reporter 2

Ayobami Suberu, the Branch Controller of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) overseeing Ogun State, has criticized a story that surfaced online, claiming that some public school students in the state had their results withheld as a result of indebtedness.

In a conversation with reporters on Tuesday morning, 13 August 2024, Suberu said that the Ogun State Government does not owe the Council in any way and termed the report “mischievous and unbalanced.”

The branch controller clarified that the reason the affected students’ results were still pending was due to a technical issue that is being investigated for an immediate fix.

He further said that the Head of the Council’s Test Administration Division has assured the branch that the results will be made public before Tuesday’s workday closes, and there has been continuous communication in that regard.

“I want to be clear that Ogun State owes WAEC nothing at all. When I was contacted previously about the claim by a top official in the Ogun State Ministry of Education, I explained that nothing of the kind had occurred and that the report on indebtedness was malicious and unbalanced.

“How can a reporter publish an article without first finding out WAEC’s side of the story? That isn’t morally right. Technical difficulties prevented those results from being given, but we are working nonstop to fix them so that they may be released on Tuesday.

“We have initiated contact with the Head of the Test Administration Division, and we are receiving positive feedback on the matter,” stated Suberu.
