Organizers of #EndBadGovernance Plan ‘Fearless in October Protest’
By Reporter 2
The organizers of the recent #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria demonstration, which took place across the country from August 1 to 10, 2024, intends to hold another October Protest.
The planned protests were verified to PUNCH correspondent on Monday, 19 August 2024, by Damilare Adenola, the Director of Mobilisation of the Take It Back Movement.
According to Adenola, the protester’s demands would stay the same, unless other concerns required them to add more. Indeed, “Fearless in October Protest” is the name of the event. “Our demands remain the same in our charter. If anything, we will add more as the nation continues to deteriorate,” he declared.
Recall that despite advice from government authorities to avoid the protests, youths across the nation, including those in the Federal Capital Territory, held the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations
Days before the protests began, the demonstrators presented a list of demands to the government. Among these were the following: pay Nigerian workers a minimum of N250,000; return fuel prices and electricity tariffs to pre-January 2023; release and compensate all EndSARS and political detainees; and abolish the Senate arm of the National Assembly and make lawmaking a part-time job for the House of Representatives.
When asked if the demonstrators would follow State Government court orders to organize protests at specific locations, Adenola said, “We won’t accept the compliance.” Additionally, Human Rights Activist Lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, informed PUNCH correspondent that “Every effort is being made to secure the release of those who have been arrested during earlier protest.”
