Police Declare British National and Nigerian Wanted for Trying to Overthrow Tinubu

By Reporter 2

Andrew Wynne, a British national, and Lucky Obiyan, a Nigerian, have been listed as wanted by the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly planning to topple President Bola Tinubu’s democratically elected administration.

The Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, accused the British national of constructing a network of sleeper cells to incite unrest and overthrow the government during a press conference with a journalist on Monday, 2 September 2024 in Abuja. “The Nigeria Police Force has launched a comprehensive investigation into the activities of foreign nationals and subversive elements who are planning to overthrow Nigeria’s democratically elected government by scheming to change the constitution and inciting violence throughout the nation,” he declared.

“Nine individuals have been captured after intense intelligence gathering and cooperation with various security services. The accused got significant financial support from international sources to destabilize the nation. Preliminary results indicate that they participated in additional criminal activities, such as spreading false information and organizing violent protests, to incite chaos and legitimize their illegal scheme to overthrow the duly elected government.

“Investigations have revealed the identity of a foreign mercenary, British national Andrew Wynne (also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey), who constructed a network of sleeper cells to overthrow the government and bring about anarchy in the country. To conceal his subversive actions, he founded “STARS of Nations Schools” and leased premises in Labour House, Abuja, for an “Iva Valley Bookshop.”

Adejobi claimed that Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich, had left the country together with Obiyan, his local coordinator. “Andrew Wynne has left the country since the investigations began,” he stated.

In light of this, he and one of his local coordinators, Lucky Ehis Obiyan, have been proclaimed wanted, and a global search for them has begun in conjunction with this inquiry. Additionally, Adejobi said that Wynne gave operational and financial direction to overthrow the nation’s elected government.

“Confessions and documentary evidence showed that Andrew Wynne gave orders, tracked developments, and supplied funding and operational direction to effect an unconstitutional regime change in Nigeria,” the speaker stated.

“He organized and sent out billions of naira to his allies in Nigeria, urging them to organize the populace to storm military barracks and police stations with violence, expecting a carnage that would provoke international censure of the Nigerian government. These acts appear to be defective of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act of 2011 and other pertinent laws” the FPRO concluded.
