New Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman Confirmed by Kogi Assembly
By Reporter 2
The Kogi State House of Assembly has vetted and cleared Justice Henry Adebola Olusiyi, the state’s previous Chief Judge, to lead the State Anti-corruption Commission.
Olusiyi was screened at the house plenary on Thursday, 5 September 2024, after the State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo nominated him. During a Question and Answer session in the Committee of the Whole, members questioned the former Chief Judge on how he would use his extensive knowledge to help combat corruption.
The newly appointed member was tasked by Speaker of the House Aliyu Umar Yusuf, who also served as the Committee of the Whole’s chair, to put in a lot of effort and use his extensive background in his new role. “Transparency and accountability are priorities for the present Assembly. On this basis, we are enlisting your assistance in the battle against corruption in our dear State,” he said.
In his submission during the screening, Justice Olusiyi commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his audacious decision to form the panel to address the state’s corruption challenges. He pledged to live up to the Governor’s confidence in him.
Recall that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo sent a letter to the house on Tuesday requesting confirmation and approval for their nominations. In the letter, the Governor nominated Dr. Tseija Azubuju Seidu as Director of Administration and Dauda Onimisi Bello as Director of Operations, with the former Chief Judge serving as a screening and confirmation position.
However, due to minimal communication between them and the Assembly, the House scheduled Dauda Onimisi Bello and Dr. Tseija Azumju Seidu for screening at another time.
