Halima Abubakar, a Nollywood actor, has publicly apologized to Apostle Johnson Suleman of Omega Fire Ministries for wrongly accusing him on social media and causing him pain.
The conflict between the actress and the pastor started in 2022 when Abubakar claimed on social media that she was romantically involved with Suleman. Abubakar also claimed that she had a weird ailment that had struck her after a fight with Apostle Suleman.
Additionally, she claimed that he had broken a vow to wed her, which led to the cleric threatening to take legal action against her for making “defamatory statements.”
In January 2023, after several warnings, Apostle Suleman filed a N1 billion lawsuit against the actress for defamation.
However, in April, a Federal High Court in Abuja decided in Apostle Suleman’s favor and ordered Halima to pay N10 million in damages for slander.
However, Abubakar expressed her sincere regret to Apostle Suleman in a letter posted on her Instagram page on Wednesday, 23 October, 2024. She apologized for damaging his reputation and acknowledged making a false statement.
“I acknowledge that I made false accusations against you, I apologize for the harm I caused to you, your wife, Dr. Lizzy Suleman, your family, and the leaders of Omega Fire Ministry,” the letter said.
“With this letter, I respectfully request your forgiveness, understanding that my apologies will not be able to make up for the hurt, suffering, and anguish I caused. I beg you to forgive me from the bottom of your heart because I wasn’t thinking at the time.
“I sincerely apologize for the hurt and anxiety I caused you, your family, and your ministry.” According to Abubakar, she hoped that her apology would somewhat undo the harm.
