Taliban Attack in Pakistan Kills 10 Northwest Police
By Reporter 2
In an attack claimed by Taliban, officials reported on Friday, 25 October 2024, that ten Police officers had been shot dead at a checkpoint close to the Afghan border.
“The fierce gunfight went on for almost an hour. During the attack, ten members of the Frontier Constabulary were martyred, and seven were wounded,” a senior intelligence officer told AFP on condition of anonymity.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province’s Dera Ismail Khan district, a post of the Frontier Constabulary, a police support force, was heavily attacked by 20 to 25 militants.
After the Afghan Taliban regained power in 2021, militancy in Pakistan has increased, with strikes mostly targeting security personnel by the movement’s Pakistani chapter. The information was also verified by a top Frontier Constabulary official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The attack occurred approximately 70 kilometers (43 miles) east of the Afghan border. Another incident happened on Thursday night in Khyber district, near the Afghan border, killing one police officer.
A policeman was killed in a roadside explosion last month that targeted a police convoy that was conveying foreign ambassadors. The Afghan Taliban and the Pakistani Taliban have similar ideologies and historical ties to Afghanistan.
Islamabad claims that these attacks are being carried out by several militant organizations, many of whom are associated with the TTP, from neighboring Afghanistan, which the Taliban authorities in Kabul denied.
