Man Risks Life Imprisonment Over Sexual Assault

A 28-year-old man, Agboola Adebayo, has been remanded in a Correctional Centre by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Monday, 8th January 2024, for committing sexual assault on a 9-month-old baby.
The Lagos State Government arraigned Adebayo, on a two-count charge of defilement and causing grievous harm to the baby. He pleaded guilty to the charge.
Justice Rahman Oshodi subsequently remanded Adebayo at the Correctional facility and adjourned the case till 25th March 2024 for a hearing.
The State Counsel, Ms. Bukola Okeowo, had informed the court that Adebayo committed the offense on 23rd March 2023 in the White Sand Area of Ijora, Badiya, Lagos.
Okeowo submitted that the defendant defiled the baby by having unlawful sexual intercourse with her. The prosecutor also said that the defendant unlawfully caused grievous harm to the child by inflicting serious injuries on her vagina.
The sexual assault offense contravenes the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015) and is punishable by life imprisonment.
