Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has claimed that the history of the Yoruba race would not have been completed had he failed in the last election.
The President remarked on Sunday, the 8th day of Fidau prayers for the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.
This was disclosed by the Daily Post on July 20, 2025.
Adetona, an old friend of former President Muhammadu Buhari, died on Sunday, aged 91. The traditional ruler passed away a few hours after the demise of ex-president Buhari was announced.
Adetona is one of the longest-reigning Kings, having been on the throne for 64 years. He ascended the throne on April 2, 1960. His relationship with the past president and Head of State started way back in the 1980s
Tinubu said that the Monarch had blessed him and encouraged him to contest for the 2023 presidential election, assuring him of Victory
He added, “Our history would not have been completed carefully and richly if I had failed in the last election.
“I was successful because of your support and the blessing of the late Awujale.”
