The General Assembly of ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) has urged the Federal Government to reform national security and boost food security across the country.
This was disclosed by Daily Trust on July 28, 2025.
It made the call in a communiqué issued at the end of the assembly’s review of the state of the nation.
Dr Steve Onya said despite the “Renewed Hope” agenda, millions of Nigerians are still struggling with economic hardship. Coupled with herder attacks, military airstrikes, and suppressed protests.
The group is disappointed that declaring a food security emergency hasn’t led to real changes.
They are also worried about education, citing JAMB and WAEC failures. Also the strained public health system.
Convener Dr. Steve Onya highlighted the country’s deteriorating situation. With economic instability, rising food prices, inequality, inflation, insecurity, and governance failures.
Country Director Andrew Mamedu and Chairperson Rabi Isma emphasized that insecurity in the North Central region is driving up food prices. And also threatening economic sustainability.
They want the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on security and adopt a coordinated, civilian-sensitive strategy.
Isma also stressed the need to protect farming communities and herders to sustain agriculture and reduce conflict.
She called up for immediate action to scale up food. Alongside livelihood interventions in conflict-affected areas.
