Community Asks Government Not to Dismantle New Emirates

By Reporter 2

Kano State‘s Rano Kibiya Bunkure Community Development Association has urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to ignore those advocating for the breakup of the State’s newly created Emirates.

Wali Rano, the community’s spokesman, requested on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, during a news conference in Kano on behalf of the Rano Emirate.

According to him, the call was required since the goal of the great majority of their people was to maintain the new Emirates.

The call was made a few days after the Kano State House of Assembly was served with a letter by an organization calling for the dissolution of the four additional Emirates that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate past Governor, had established.

The community claims that maintaining the Emirates does not entail hating the Kano Emirate or any individual, despite what some narrow-minded people may think.

“In Nigeria, the advancement of Traditional Rulers is nothing new. From the Fulani Jihad to the present, there has been an ongoing progression from Village Heads to District Heads or District Heads to Emirs,” stated Rano.

He stated that rather than being perceived as a negative political implication, the currently in place Emirates and the upgrading of districts to Emirates should be understood as a purposeful and conscious attempt to restore and preserve traditional and political status to its historic status.

Because of Rano specifically, Rano has existed as a Sovereign State under the control of multiple Kwararrafa and Habe monarchs.
