Borno IDP Camp: Boko Haram Kidnapped Dozens of People
By Reporter 2
Terrorists suspected to be Boko Haram have carried out a new attack in Borno State, kidnapping dozens of people.
On Monday, 4th March 2024, the rebels attacked three camps for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Ngala town, as well as the Headquarters of the Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area, which is located near the Cameroonian border and is the hub of terrorist activity.
Over forty girls and women were abducted by the terrorists from the Babban Sansani, Zulum, and Arabic camps when they were going to gather firewood from the bush, according to a security source.
As the precise number of girls abducted has not yet been determined, the source stated that the number of women and girls abducted may have been greater.
ISWAP and Boko Haram are still active in the area, and the conflict between them has resulted in at least 35,000 deaths and the eviction of over 2 million people from their homes in Borno State alone.
People frequently leave the numerous IDP camps in Northern Nigeria to look for firewood for their use and to sell.
In addition, three houses, cattle, and goods valued at millions of naira in Ajari town in Damboa LGA were set on fire by the terrorists, along with an unknown number of shelters in GDSSS IDP Camp Shuwari in Mafa LGA.
There were no reported casualties from the Monday, 4th March 2024, fire incident at the two locations.
More than 25 newly constructed homes intended for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Dikwa LGA were set on fire by the terrorists when they invaded a secluded community in Gajibo, according to a second member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) who verified the information.
According to the CJTF member, the terrorists set up numerous improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at the Gajibo construction site in an attempt to obstruct the attempts to rebuild the village that was uprooted.
Nahum Daso, the Borno State Police spokesman, told reporters that the Military, which oversees operations in the Northeast, is the only group authorized to comment on the incident on behalf of the Police Command.
Captain Reuben Kovangiya, the acting spokesman for Operation Hadin Kai, could not be reached by phone, therefore attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.
