NBA to Use Electronic Voting for 2024 Election

By Reporter 2

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) announced its 2024 election will employ an electronic voting mechanism. According to the NBA, this choice will make it easy for association members to cast ballots from various locations.

This was revealed on Tuesday, 16th April 2024, during the opening of the nomination forms in Abuja by the Association’s Electoral Committee, chaired by Oluseun Abimbola (SAN).

According to the reports, “All registered members from branches around the nation are expected to participate in the NBA election, which is set for July 20, 2024.”  By April 20, 2024, the panel is anticipated to have compiled a shortlist of the names of those who successfully responded.

“Our voting system is electronic so members can vote from their respective locations. Secondly, I can assure you that all we are doing is transparent for members to verify,” said Abimbola. We will soon issue guidelines that will govern every stage of the process. Abimbola added that we have issued some guidelines already and will issue more as we progress.”

In response to a question about whether participants could see the results instantly, Abimbola stated that candidates and their representatives would be provided access to the system’s backend. According to him, there are 120 NBA branches nationwide, and if we consider the number of members, we should consider more than 150,000.

“The fundamental aspect of this engagement is that the candidates are adequately represented. I promise that at that stage in the process, the candidates and their representatives will carry out the required verifications,” Abimbola added.
