Dauda Aboki Denies Allegations of Withholding Workers Salaries
By Reporter 2
Dauda Aboki, the Chairman of the Bali Local Government Council in Taraba State, has finally spoken out about rumours about worker’s monthly salaries. In an interview with the media on Thursday, 9 May 2024, in the State Capital of Jalingo, the chairman refuted claims made by certain employees that they have been without pay for more than four months.
Aboki empathises with the grievances of the Council employees who have been voicing their concerns about delayed payments and is actively taking steps to address their issues. This empathetic response is crucial in making the employees feel that their concerns are being heard and understood.
Aboki responded to the allegations by stating that most dissatisfied employees need to be officially registered on the council’s payroll, dismissing the claims as unfounded. He claimed that although the employees were initially supposed to take over for their deceased or retired parents, they were yet to finish their documentation which has caused delays in processing salaries.
He has trusted the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), leadership in the Council, asking them to ensure the personnel have the appropriate documentation. This trust is crucial in reassuring the public and stakeholders of his confidence in the NULGE leadership.
Aboki, in a clear demonstration of his respect for the law and commitment to upholding responsibility, stressed that his administration has no ill intentions against NULGE or the affected workers. This statement is aimed at reassuring the public and stakeholders of his strict adherence to legal procedures.
Aboki, demonstrating his commitment to resolving the issue, assured that once the necessary paperwork is completed, the employees will be promptly added to the payroll and receive their due, even though the number of affected workers is not over 37.
The NULGE chairman, Abdulmumuni Isa, already attested that the employees have yet to receive compensation since January 2024. He also warned that if the salary delays are not rectified immediately, they will negatively affect the council’s ability to function.
A few of the angry employees who spoke with newsmen expressed their annoyance by saying that they had worked for the council in various Divisions and had not received promotions and monthly pay.
They added that they and their families had been enduring significant hardships, including overall misery, malnutrition, and hunger, due to the chairman’s four-month delay in paying their salaries. This amplification of their frustration is aimed at evoking a sense of urgency and concern about them.
