EFCC Launches Investigation into Kwankwaso’s Alleged N2.5 Billion Fraud
By Reporter 2
The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has begun an investigation into the misappropriation of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) campaign fund for the 2023 elections and the failure of the Kwankwaso-led National Working Committee to pay party agents who worked for the party in the 2023 Presidential and Governorship elections across the country.
As reported by Vanguard, the anti-graft agency has summoned the party’s National Secretary, Comrade Oginni Olaposi, on Sunday, 26 May 2024, to provide evidence for the allegation of fraud against Senator Kwankwaso and his Private Secretary, Mrs Folashade Aliu, who is suspected to be the ‘conduit pipe’ of Kwankwaso’s alleged misappropriation of party funds with campaign and donations secret account.
According to the sources, Oginni’s petition also purportedly indicted the signatories, who included Prof. Rufai Alkali, Abba Kawu, and Dipo Olayokun, to a bank account of the New Nigeria People’s Party, or NNPP.
“As a result, the anti-corruption agency may be forced to investigate Dipo Olayokun’s sudden wealth and how he acquired properties in desirable areas of Abuja in less than two years as a signatory to the NNPP’s account.”.
In a phone call with journalist in Abeokuta, the Party’s National Secretary, Comrade Oginni, confirmed that he was a guest at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Headquarters in Abuja last week Wednesday, 22 May 2024, to make statements and clarifications on the petition he signed on behalf of the party, alleging Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his team of N2.5 billion fraud.
“Truly, I was invited by the EFCC.” I accepted the invitation and was pleased with the professionalism of the EFCC personnel. I answered inquiries about the petition I signed on behalf of the NNPP without being harassed or intimidated.
Expressing his confidence in the EFCC’s integrity, Oginni stated, “They want to ensure the charges are true and without ulterior motives. We believe Nigeria is in capable hands with these EFCC personnel who are determined to eradicate corruption in Nigeria’s highest echelons, regardless of influential figures involved.”
Given the confirmed invitation from the NNPP’s National Secretary, It is apparent that an investigation into the petition against Senator Kwankwaso has begun, and his invitation by the anti-graft agency to clear his name is imminent.
