By Reporter 2
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has threatened to disconnect debtors on its network who do not pay their bills within 72 hours.
According to data from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), AEDC had around 1.4 million registered customers at the end of March 2024 in its franchise region, which included the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Niger, and Kogi States. The utility has a 61.07 metering rate.
In a statement issued on Friday, 31 May 2024, by Adefisayo Akinsanya, Head of Marketing and Communications, the company asked consumers to meet payment deadlines. She stated that AEDC “notifies all customers with outstanding bills to settle their accounts immediately to avoid service disruption.”
“To this aim, consumers who haven’t paid their due bills within the next 72 hours of this notice by Monday, June 3, 2024, will have their electrical supply disconnected. AEDC stresses the necessity of meeting payment deadlines to maintain efficient and dependable service.
“The timely payment of power bills remains critical for the sustained operation and improvement of AEDC’s infrastructure, which is required to provide continuous service to the community.”
