Flooding: “You lack Emergency Plan” – Rhodes-Vivour knocks Lagos Govt.

By Reporter 3

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has berated the Lagos State Government for not being proactive enough in flood management in the State. The Lagos State governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, made this assertion in an interview granted on Channels Television program on Thursday, July 4, 2024, monitored by DAILY POST. Flooding is a recurring incident in Lagos State.

Lagos experienced flooding on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, due to heavy downpours which lasted for hours, the latest flood incident destroyed the commercial capital of the country.

In his reaction to the development, Rhodes-Vivour chastised the Lagos Government’s flood and disaster management strategies.

Rhodes-Vivour advised the government to initiate wetland protection policies that would reduce and manage the impact of annual floods.

“What is more painful to me is that I see a government that is in your face and very active when it comes to demolition but you have this kind of thing (flood), and you don’t see any emergency response or protocol.

“We are not seeing men on the ground. We are not seeing intelligence being given out early: ‘Avoid these routes.’ There were no diversions. I don’t feel a sense of ‘I told you so.’ Anybody who loves Lagos well enough and has looked at the history of Lagos would see these things way before they happen,” he said.
