Nationwide Protest: “There Will Be No Protest in Bauchi” – Says SSG
By Reporter 2
On Wednesday, 24 July 2024, the Bauchi State Government declared that there would be no protests in the Northeastern State, advising anyone planning to organize one to reconsider.
During a press briefing at the Government House, Barrister Ibrahim Kashim, the Secretary to the State Government of Bauchi State ( SSG), denied any rumors of protests taking place in the state. This was said against the backdrop of the upcoming nationwide protest.
According to Kashim, “As a government, we distance ourselves from all forms of protest. We are not aware of it, we are not welcoming any nationwide protest, and it won’t happen in Bauchi State.” He emphasized that the State is known for its tranquility and that the government is committed to maintaining its environment.
The SSG issued a warning to the organizers, saying, “They should protest elsewhere, not in Bauchi State, if they insist on protesting.” Kashim categorically denied recent media reports that stated the State’s basic healthcare facilities were closed. He claimed that the claim was wholly untrue and that the government had not authorized, approved, or had knowledge of the scheme.
He declared, “We will conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action against those responsible.” Additionally, he assured the people that all public institutions, including primary healthcare centers throughout the state, would continue to operate as usual and that they should believe no false information about their shutdown.
Kashim urges citizens of Bauchi State to go about their daily activities without fear of disturbance, adding that all agencies and the security architecture are on high alert and will not allow any demonstration at all.
