“I Laugh at Claims of My Igbo Paternity” – Obasanjo

By Reporter 2

According to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, he laughs at the claim that he is of Igbo paternity since he doesn’t think anyone in Nigeria should be forced to leave any part of the nation. He stated that despite the different cultural backgrounds “we own this country together.”

He made these remarks on Thursday, 16 August 2024, in the boardroom of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, while receiving the leadership of the Ndigbo Amaka Progressive Market Association, which serves as the umbrella organization for the main markets in Lagos State.

“It just makes me laugh,” was all that Obasanjo had to say about the Igbo paternity allegation controversy in a statement provided by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi.

The former President stated that the group’s leadership had contacted him to offer help for the creation of the Owerri Central Market, which is slated to be the greatest of its kind in the nation.

He recognized that the Central Market Owerri had been discussed since Imo State was formed, but it had not been put into action for a variety of reasons. He said, “I am glad it is coming up again and I hope this time, we are all going to make it real.” It will be enormous, being the first of its kind.

Furthermore, “I am pleased that the governor is demonstrating the appropriate level of interest and comprehension. I have no doubt that the Owerri Central Market will be, since he stated that he would like to be the market’s marketing team leader.”

Having made sure that the Yorubas, Igbos, and Hausas united to fight for Nigeria’s unity, and not to fight Igbos to go, but to come. Thus, he declared, “If anybody tells me that someone should leave anywhere he will be the one to leave”

The market will serve as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship, assuring of the group’s determination to play its part in the growth of the market and the country, according to remarks made by the group’s spokesperson, Emeka Emmanuel, who read a letter jointly signed by their leaders, Chinedu Ukatu and Iwuchukwu Ezenwafor.

In addition, he asked the former President for assistance in realizing the global market, which would, in his opinion, result in the eviction of a large number of people from the street. Emmanuel continued, “Their members would be able to acquire loans to buy stores and spaces at the market with the former President’s assistance.”
