Jigawa Receives 1,528 Metric Tonnes of Grains From NEMA

By Reporter 2

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has delivered 1,528.2 metric tonnes of different grains to assist the residents of Jigawa State.

The agency said that President Bola Tinubu approved the distribution, which was managed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in a statement that was published on X.com on Monday, 19 August 2024. The grains would be allocated to aid Nigerians across all 36 States including Federal Capital Territory.

The statement claims that the source of this distribution came from the 42,000 metric tonnes of various food commodities from the National Strategic Reserve.

The statement said in part, “Today, in a significant step towards fulfilling this promise, the National Emergency Management Agency is overseeing the handover of Jigawa State’s allocated share of these commodities,”

A total of 594 metric tons (11,880 bags) of maize, 691.2 metric tons (13,824 bags) of sorghum, and 243 metric tons (4,860 bags) of millet are included in the distribution. All Jigawa State Local Government Areas would get an equal distribution of these food commodities.

The initiative comes after the Federal Government declared it would provide 42,000 metric tonnes of grains at no cost in an effort to alleviate the nation’s food crisis.
