Nigerian Government Release Polish Nationals Arrested During Protest

By Reporter 3

The Nigerian Police has released the Polish students and their teacher arrested in Kano during the EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protest.

Poland’s Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, stated this on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, via X.

The Nigerian Government had arrested seven Polish citizens in Kano over suspicion of their involvement in the waving of Russian flags during the protest, which took place from August 1 to August 10, 2024, across major cities in the country.

Polish authorities had faulted the arrest, saying they were University of Warsaw students and a teacher, who found themselves “in the wrong place at the wrong time”.

However, Sikorski said with the release of the nationals they would return to Poland soon.

According to him: “I would like to confirm that the young people are already free, back in Kano, on campus, with passports.

“I think the young people received an accelerated lesson in African studies… I hope they will be back in the country soon,” he said.
