Family members, 25 others die in Boat Mishap

A family of 10 members and 25 other persons lost their lives to a boat mishap in Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State.

The incident allegedly occurred around 2pm on Saturday when the victims visited the Zumba weekly market.

The Sarkin Ruwa Zumba, Umar Isah, calculated the number of casualties to be about 25.

Isah reported that the victims were traveling from Guni in Munya LGA to the Zumba weekly market in Shiroro LGA. When the boat came into contact with the tree log, it capsized.

According to him, the driver wasn’t sure how many passengers were on board. A family lost 10 members, and another family still can’t account for 5 members.

Isah says many passengers traveling from Guni to the Zumba market are still missing.

NSEMA’s Director of Information, Dr. Ibraihim Audu Hussaini, confirms the incident. However, the agency is still waiting for the full casualty report.
