Electoral Act Amendment Bill passes Second Reading

By Reporter 2

The Second Reading of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill was approved by the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

Senator Francis Waive, who represents Delta State’s Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency, sponsored the bill named “A Bill for an Act to amend the Electoral Act, 2022 and for Related Matters.”

Waive bemoaned the shortcomings in the Electoral Act 2022 while introducing the bill, pointing out that a change to the statute allowing “for the electronic transmission of results would help the nation’s democracy.”

Additionally, he advocated for a ten-year review of voter registration.

He stated, “A good starting point will be a review of the voter register every ten years.”

Details to come….
