Minimum Wage: Tripartite Committee Resumes Negotiations

The Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage has resumed negotiations over a new minimum wage for workers in the Country. The committee is holding its meeting at NICON Luxury Hotel in Abuja.
It was gathered that the Federal Government is represented by Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance; Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and National Planning; Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the Minister of Labour; and representatives of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, along with the Head of Service of the Federation.
On the side of the Organised Labour are: Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Festus Osifo, the President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and other members of the Union. Abdulateef Shittu, the Director General of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, was present at the meeting. It was observed that none of the State Governors was in attendance at the time of filing this report.
Recall that Labour relaxed its nationwide indefinite strike on Tuesday, 4 June 2024, for one week to allow the committee to continue its negotiations after an emergency meeting convened by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and an agreement was signed at the end of the meeting.
