US President, Joe Biden is expected to announce plans protecting hundreds of thousands of immigrants who have been living in the United States illegally for years but are married to American citizens. The announcement is expected to be made on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the White House. The policy is to shield them from deportation.

One of the sources familiar with the plan described it as “The biggest thing since Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)” which protects people who came to the United States as children from deportation. He added that it was a clever political decision by the Biden administration.

Biden will give details about the policy at the White House during the 12th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The policy will protect and shield undocumented spouses of US citizens from deportation, provide work permits, and give a pathway to citizenship.

Officials who are familiar with the policy said it could affect up to 500,000 undocumented spouses, although the exact scale of the program remained unclear.

Biden is also expected to disclose new ways to help people in DACA, known as Dreamers, gain access to work visas.
