US Condemn Murder of Anastacio Caal

The United States of America has strongly condemned the murder of Anastacio Caal, the Secretary-General of the Guatemalan Trade Union, and declared unwavering support to the efforts by the Guatemalan authorities to apprehend the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
Recall that Anastacio Tzib Caal who was recently elected as the Secretary General of the Guatemalan Trade Union was murdered on June 15, at the Texpia II garment factory by yet-to-be-identified persons. The US sympathized with his family, friends, and the Texpia II workers’ union.
This was made known in a statement released on Monday, June 17, 2024, from the office of the spokesperson of the U.S.
Department of State. The statement reiterated that worker rights are a fundamental part of a functioning democracy.
It further stated the determination of the US government to support and advocate for freedom of association and the rights of workers to organize around the world, adding that the United States supports security efforts more broadly, which enables everyone to live without fear of violence.
